The Podcast

Getting Back Up is a raw, honest, and often unexpectedly uplifting podcast hosted by two Black men who’ve experienced one of life’s most devastating blows - losing their partners to cancer.

We, David McClain and Jamal Jones, created this space to have real conversations about what comes after. As dads, grieving partners, and men learning to navigate a world that looks nothing like the one we planned, we explore themes of loss, healing, rediscovery, and resilience.

We open up about our personal journeys, and sit down with everyday people and industry professionals alike, to shine a light on the experience of supporting someone through illness, and what it means to keep living when they’re gone.

Our mission is to give voice to the men who often suffer in silence, offer support to those standing beside someone in the fight of their lives, and help piece things back together when everything feels broken.

Whether you’re here to listen, reflect, or just not feel alone, you’re in the right place.
